Dr Katrina Anderson

BMed MTh FRACGP

Dr Katrina Anderson is Associate Professor, Academic Unit of General Practice, Australian National University (ANU) Medical School and Chair of the Canberra Region Medical Education Council. Katrina has been involved in medical education for 25 years. Katrina has been a GP in Canberra, a medical educator and GP supervisor for over 20 years. She was the Director of GP Training in the ACT and South East NSW for eight years as well as Director of the Prevocational GP Placement Program in the region that placed junior doctors into general practice. She is currently Chair of the Year 3 Integrated Child and Community Health term at the ANU Medical School and looks after the placement of medical students into ACT general practices. Katrina is a Board member of the Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Councils and was an ACT representative on the RACGP NSW and ACT Board for many years. In 2017 Katrina received an Australian Award for University Teaching Excellence.

Her main research and education interests are in medical education, specifically related to vertical integration, supervisor support and prevocational training. She has a special interest in mental health and counselling, and is passionate about patient-centred medicine and improving health outcomes for vulnerable and disadvantaged patients.

 
 

Dr Jennifer Thomson

AM MBBS FRACGP MBA

Associate Professor Jennifer Thomson has been a GP for over 40 years. Her clinical practice has been mostly in urban locations, but Jennifer also has some rural and remote, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health experience.

She has a long history in GP education and training, with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) as a State Director, then General Practice Education & Training (GPET) as Principal Medical Educator, Coast City Country GP Training, as Deputy Chair and consultant medical educator. Jennifer has many years of experience as a GP supervisor and as an Associate Professor at the ANU Medical School. She is currently an independent Ministerial-appointed member of the GP Training Advisory Committee. She has been a GP reviewer as part of the accreditation processes for GP regional training providers (RTP), both with GPET and Bi-College RTP Accreditation.

She has had a range of leadership roles in the profession, including the Council of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) as expert in Medical Education and Standards, Chair of the Australian Divisions of General Practice, Founding Chair and Executive Director of the ACT Division of General Practice, acting Director of Health Services at the Federal Australian Medical Association and Principal Medical Adviser GP Workforce with the Federal Department of Health and Ageing. She has been an ACT representative on the RACGP NSW Faculty board over many years and more recently completed a period as RACGP Corlis Fellow for the ACT.

Jennifer was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2018, in recognition of her significant service to general practice, including medical education.
